As a Latin American teaching artist, Mr. Morales is dedicated to engaging diverse musicians in quality orchestral experiences, such as the International Music Festival of the Sifais in Costa Rica, which he was invited to conduct in 2018. During his tenure at Winton Woods, the orchestra program doubled in size and offerings expanded to include electric ensembles, summer camps, frequent guest artists, and performance tours to Miami, FL. Mr. Morales brought a unique rapport to the learning environment that earned him the district’s Most Influential Teacher Award––twice––in 2015 and 2017.
Having started his life as a violist, Mr. Morales later studied bassoon performance and string pedagogy as an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In 2017, he returned to pursue a graduate degree in music education and orchestral conducting.
Felipe Morales-Torres currently serves as a conductor for the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestras. Previously, he was Director of Orchestras for Winton Woods City Schools and played a part in several El Sistema-inspired programs, including the Dayton Philharmonic’s Q The Music. His performances with students are known for their richness and detail, a result of “outstanding and innovative instruction” that earned him the title of Young Teacher of the Year in 2014 from the Ohio String Teachers Association.
